Daily Painters "Relax"

Ahhh...just finished framing my final piece for the San Diego Holiday Arts Festival this Thanksgiving weekend. I'm often asked if I ever do abstract pieces. Yes, I love to do abstracts just to relax. It's a great way to finish off a hectic week of preparations. I usually pre-select a color palette, then work on these pieces over a period of months. No hurry, they just evolve in their own time.

Daily Painters "Before the Storm"

I'm counting the days until my next show at the San Diego Holiday Arts Festival. Daily Painters "Sunset Cove #3"

Working in a studio at Balboa Park, the middle of a vacation destination, makes this native San Diegan thankful for all that we enjoy here in "Americas Finest City." I often overhear tourists from the colder climates discussing our weather. It also amazes me every time someone speaks of seeing their first palm tree! Hmm...that's something I thought universal...guess not. The ocean is also high on the thrill list for some folks. So here's another reminder of why I love to call this place home.

Daily Painters "California Colors Two"

Day two of my California Colors adventure, here is another scene from my travels. One would never think the Eucalyptus trees, native to Australia, would make their way into the fields of Central California. I am always drawn to these trees for some reason... maybe because their tall slender trunks always make for easy compositional balance. This is actually a great companion piece to the painting I posted yesterday. Same color palette, size and framing.

My thoughts are back to a recent trip to Sonoma. The views along the way in Central California are some of my favorite to paint. Planted rows of everything you can imagine, and hillsides dotted with Oak trees. So glad the farmers spared the Oaks...they add so much character to the landscape.
