Daily Painters "Bird of Paradise"
Since I grew up with "the birds", it always catches me by surprise when tourists show such excitement over their pointed plumes. They remind me that I'll be spending this beautiful Memorial Day weekend in the garden, probably tending their masses. The weather here is sunny and clear, and it's already about 70 degrees at 9 a.m. A little trimming here, a little weeding there, then on to the business of grilling up the perfect rack of ribs and maybe checking out the downtown scene for a little dessert later this evening.
This piece is painted in soft pastel and measures 14" x 18". It is framed in wide dark wood with thin gold liner, and UV/non-glare museum glass. You can enjoy your very own "birds" without the clipper blisters :)
Buy it now price $475 + $40 to ship anywhere in the continental U.S. or Canada. Thanks for looking.

Daily Painters "Vine Time"
Ahhh...my thoughts are wandering through spring time in wine country. The smell of sweet grapes on the vine while enjoying a warm walk in the rows is almost as good as that glass of red heaven at the end of the day. June will bring another trip to Sonoma for more exploration. Having lived in San Diego all of my life, I often try to imagine where I would like to spend my "retirement" years. I still think Santa Fe, New Mexico is tops on the list, but Sonoma is a close second. John likes Carmel (cha-ching!) don't think that's gonna happen, but it's fun to dream...

Daily Painters "Furball"

Usually a painter of landscapes and botanical scenes, I thought this would be a fun little detour. Painting animals is something I rarely do, but my approach is really not any different. I just paint what I see and it usually works out. I've had a few city scene and hot rod ideas bouncing around in my head for a while now, and you'll probably see a few of those popping up from time to time.

Torrey Pines Nature Preserve here in San Diego is one of my favorite places to spend a warm, spring day. Daily Painters "Poppy Party"
The 2011 San Diego County Fair is just around the corner! I'll be first in line at breakfast time for my favorite chocolate covered bacon...then catch a quick pig race...then it must be time for a twelve-clove garlic chicken sandwich...back over to Bing Crosby Hall to check out the latest in kitchen gadgets... What? You don't do all of these things? Then how about a great "Exhibition of Fine Art"? Special events this year include a chalk art contest, plein air painting contest, small image contest, and several daily art demonstrations. You can literally spend the entire day immersed in the arts.

Ok, so I'm a few days late on this one, but I can tell you, it took me that long to recover from the celebration! The view from my bedroom deck on Cinco de Mayo morning set the stage for another beautiful day. I never tire of the colorful sunrise, and yes, I'm always up with the roosters to see it.

Daily Painters "Sunny Day"
It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood. It seems after last winter's wind damage to one of the big trees in Spanish Village Art Center, the squirrels have been provided with a makeshift ladder so they can continue to scurry down from the roof of Studio #25 (The Glass Guild) and eat their seed treats. The result is a healthy stand of sunflowers where the tree once stood. Mother Nature fixes everything...

Daily Painters "Poppy Tangle"
It feels good to be back to my somewhat quiet and "normal" studio life. This piece is one of the many "special request" projects on my drawing board since participating in ArtWalk weekend. Whenever I'm asked to create commissioned or companion pieces, I like to add them to my list of "special requests" and work them into my daily painting routine. It seems to keep things flowing a little easier, and keeps the pressure off of everyone. Here's how it works: Drop by my studio or send me an email with your ideas, I'll paint a few pieces for you to choose from and post them here to my blog. You're free to purchase, or pass and wait for another - just let me know by email. It's not what you had in mind? Don't worry...you won't hurt my feelings, I'll add a Paypal button and it may be the perfect fit for someone else that would like to start their collection.

Mission Federal ArtWalk
It was another wild weekend at the Mission Federal ArtWalk in Little Italy. The crowds were enjoying beautiful weather, great music and lots of good food...oh, and a wide variety of original art too! Hanging, wrapping, and standing 10 hours a day, two days in a row had my feet, knees and back calling for a time out, but as always, I'm already signed up and looking forward to next year.
I would like to thank all of you that stopped by to visit again this year, and especially those of you that added a little something to your collection or decided to start your collection with one of my pieces. Here are just a few of the photos from the weekend, and again, I'm really sorry to those of you that I missed photographs ... just brain fade I guess :)
