Daily Painters "Torrey Pine Moon"

Hiking along the cliff trails at Torrey Pines State Preserve will always get the creative juices flowing. I've painted this, one of my favorite scenes, in a few different ways. Since this scene of the moon glowing over the ocean would probably occur here in California somewhere around 4 a.m., and long after this party animal has hit the sheets, creative license plays an important role.

Daily Painters "Cabernet on my mind..."

Remembering scenes from Sonoma, I'm thinking of planting grape vines in my back yard. Grandma had grape vines with huge, dark purple grapes she called Muscats. The warm summer air was filled with the humming sounds of big, fuzzy, black and yellow bees, along with the sweet smell of warm grapes on the vine. They exploded in my mouth, and stained my white socks.

Daily Painters "Blue Plate Special"

Along with the heat of summer comes the donning of shorts and tank tops. Do I have to?  Do I have to try to wear something cool and comfortable...and look great in it? Can't I just wear my "uniform" every day? For those of you that know me, the uniform of choice for scooting around the studio is a medical "Scrub" top and shorts. They're great, lots of pockets, cool in summer, hides the backside...what more could you want!  But since I'd look a little funny attending social gatherings in my Scrubs, smoothies for breakfast, salads for lunch and dinner without wine is where I'm at. A bit resistant to menu changes, I'm pulling hubby along the best I can. Can't wait for the weekend...I'm not giving up my bacon on the weekend...

"Blue Plate Special" is painted in soft pastel on sandpaper. Framed in wide dark wood with gold liner and UV/non-glare museum glass, this piece is ready to hang and enjoy...no calories! Buy it now price $295 + $30 to ship anywhere in the continental U.S. or Canada.

Daily Painters "Sunswept"

Funny weather here in San Diego...first it feels like Summer...then it gets cold...today it feels like Fall. I recently spent a beautiful morning snapping photos in the "sunflower forest" of one of my collectors, Roberta H. Forest is the perfect word to describe the hundreds of sunflowers she so lovingly tended. She invited me to experience "the big droop" when the flower heads finally bow to the heat of the summer.  Snapping photos under these towering blooms was pure joy for this artist, and her beautiful yard had my green thumb throbbing! So thank you again to Roberta, you bring some much needed sunshine to us all.

Daily Painters "Casa de Pico"

Whew...another hot day in the neighborhood. During the summer months here in San Diego, one of our favorite things to do on a warm evening is go to Old Town and sit on the patio at Casa de Pico. The colorful surroundings, festive mariachi music, and spicy menu selections are summertime favorites. Succulents in bright Mexican pottery always catch my eye, so much that I now have my own collection on the back patio.

Painted in soft pastel on sandpaper, this piece measures 12" x 16" and is framed in wide, dark wood with UV/non-glare museum glass. Buy it now priced at $365 + $40 to ship anywhere in the continental U.S. or Canada.  Ole!

Daily Painters "Creekside Summer"

Hot thoughts are fillin' my head today,
the beak is half open on my bluejay.
It's 90 degrees here in the shade,
if I lived at the beach I'd have it made.
Good thing my studio has a/c,
that's a smile on the face of SDG&E.
Here's hopin' this painting makes you feel cool,
and my rappin' it mood don't make me look like a fool!

Okay, seriously...this piece is painted in soft pastel on sandpaper and measures 12" x 9." Framed in wide dark wood with UV/non-glare museum glass, it is ready to hang and enjoy...I mean chill! Buy it now price $260 + $30 to ship anywhere in the continental U.S. or Canada.

Tips for fellow artists...

This is my cute little studio in Spanish Village Art Center, Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. This is where I love to spend my time ... not in front of the computer trying to wrestle with Facebook, Google, MySpace, Twitter, you name it.

I can't tell you how much time and energy went into creating my artist blog. It was many weeks of trial and error, going to the bookstore and looking for answers, and plenty of headaches. Finally, there is help available!

So for all of my artist friends out there that are pondering blog creation, and especially the ones that are already pulling out their hair trying to build an artists blog, some nifty little gal has created an on-line class to help.

Check it out here.

Daily Painters "La Jolla Daybreak"

My husband and I were attending a car show in La Jolla a few months back and decided to play "tourists in our own town" for the weekend. We stayed at the La Jolla Cove Suites, with a room overlooking the Cove. Wow...what a trill for this "inland girl" to fall asleep listening to the sound of pounding surf on the rocks below. Early the next morning, we walked along the cliffs and enjoyed our city before the tourists were awake. This is a scene from the back side of the cove, with the cliffs in deep shade as the sun rose. Such a peaceful sight with no one else around...

This piece is painted in soft pastel on sandpaper, and measures 12" x 12". It is framed in wide dark wood with thin gold liner and UV/non-glare museum glass. Ready to hang and enjoy. Buy it now price $295 + $30 to ship anywhere in the continental U.S. or Canada. Updated 7/7/11: Sold to one of my top collectors!

Daily Painters "All Choked Up"

While in Sonoma last month, I not only browsed some beautiful vineyards, I also stumbled upon an architectural design/garden center. The garden displays were so unique, I spent almost three hours just wandering about and snapping photos of the many interesting plants. One of the most unique settings was an entire vegetable garden built in raised planters with vertical rebar mesh fashioned into ten foot tall trellis structures. There were fabulous heirloom tomato towers, and this wonderful stand of artichokes that were the tallest I've ever seen. Veggies on steroids I was thinking...

Painted in soft pastel on sandpaper, this piece measures 11" x 14" and is framed in wide dark wood with UV/non-glare museum glass. Ready to hang and enjoy...without the garlic butter :)
