The Artist

My gallery/studio at Spanish Village Art Center, Balboa Park, San Diego, CA
Growing up in San Diego, I have fond memories of many pleasurable hours spent browsing the art museums and artist studios in Balboa Park, and riding the carousel with my grandma.  I am fortunate to have come "full circle" through a variety of non-art occupations to where I am today...spending my days in one of my two studios and painting full time.

I'm often asked what this artist does in a typical day...
  • 4-8:00 am. Early morning hours on the computer to answer emails, marketing, accounting, etc.
  • 10-3:00 pm. Painting in my home studio, or working in my Spanish Village gallery/studio.
  • 3-4:00 pm. Photographing and posting to blog.
  • 4-5:00 pm. Wine with "The Doctors" and prepare dinner
  • 6-9:00 pm. Evening hours spent framing, wrapping and shipping.
All those hours in between? I shop, clean, cook, eat, pay bills, and sleep just like everyone else :)

Since I prefer to handle all of my art sales personally, I invite you to view my work at my studio/gallery (shown above) 34A at Spanish Village Art Center in Balboa Park, San Diego. My work is also found in Southern California at various art festivals and shows listed on my "Upcoming Events" page, and on several International Web Galleries with links on my blog.

Often asked about my unique style, I can only say that it is the result of almost daily painting, training in illustration, painting and art history, plus a great deal of experimentation over time. Twelve years ago, after being introduced to soft pastel, I began to incorporate my own techniques and paint daily.

I am a Signature Member of The Pastel Society of America, juried member of the online Daily Painters Gallery and DailyPaintworks Gallery. Locally in San Diego, I am a member of the Museum of the Living Artist, Spanish Village Art Center, and the Pastel Society of San Diego.

My passion for design and color has resulted in numerous “Best in Show” awards in Illustration and Fine Arts, and my original and commissioned works in soft pastel and oil are in collections and institutions throughout the country.

Artist Statement:
“I enjoy painting the world with my own twist. Rather than producing textbook renditions, I choose to concentrate on emphasizing the individual character of my subject. Blending of traditional materials allows me to give unique personality to everyday scenes. I approach each of these original works as an adventure. The result is as surprising for me as I hope it is for you.”
