Monique
Straub is known for her vividly colored landscape and botanical paintings in
oil on canvas. Her work is focused on the raw concepts of movement and
design, and painted with a twist of joy and playfulness.
From her
studio in the Mission Valley area of San Diego, Straub brings to life bold
renditions of everyday scenes. A simple trip to the grocery store can trigger a
series of photos, that later become the springboard to something more.
A student of
the Scottsdale Artists School, Straub’s vibrant work is in numerous private
collections across the country and internationally, and has been published in
Professional Artist Magazine, San Diego Home & Garden, Pastel Journal, and
Art Collector Magazine.
Monique was
selected as a “Featured Artist” for the Mission Federal ArtWalk in 2010, and
was awarded “Best in Show – Painting” at the 2015 La Jolla Festival of the
Arts.
Her unique style is the result of training in illustration, painting and art history, plus a great deal of experimentation over time. Eighteen years ago, after being introduced to soft pastel, she began to incorporate her own techniques and paint daily.
You are invited to view her online sales gallery, or if you're in the San Diego area, check out the Upcoming Event calendar to see the work live!
Artist Statement:
“I enjoy painting the world with my own twist. Rather than producing textbook renditions, I choose to concentrate on emphasizing the individual character of my subject. Blending of traditional materials allows me to give unique personality to everyday scenes. I approach each of these original works as an adventure. The result is as surprising for me as I hope it is for you.”
