Something a little different rolled off the brushes this week. I've been painting steadily for my upcoming show at the Indian Wells Art Festival, and palm trees have been center stage. Not sure where this came from, but I like it :) I generally start my morning painting sessions by pouring through a big box of photos I've taken over the years. Some still excite me, and some not so much. This photo reference was taken on the way home to San Diego from Las Vegas. I've painted it in soft pastel once, and in oil twice, each time a different color palette and flavor shows through. This is my favorite version to date.

The third painting of my current "Desert Palm" series, "Windswept" was painted from a photograph that I took last summer while enjoying a morning hike in the Palm Desert area of the Coachella Valley. The wind was whipping and these palms were rustling a song of peace and solitude.

Studio News: Oh how life can change in the blink of an eye! If you're following me on Facebook, you already know that I've been diagnosed with Cancer. Stage 2 Lymphoma to be exact. I've just completed my second round of Chemotherapy, and I'm happy to report that things are going very well. Getting tired easily is the only side effect I'm currently experiencing, so the painting continues at my home studio, and I hope to be ready to show my work again at ArtWalk in Little Italy this coming April.
