A leisurely walk along the Seventeen Mile Drive in Carmel last week prompted me to pull this photo from my "gotta paint it" box and go to work. Gazing up at the trees and hearing the leaves rustle in the fall wind just puts me in the mood for everything orange and gold. A tall pumpkin latte maybe?

I'm revisiting another favorite scene today. I've had a few requests for pieces that are sold, and I'm relaxing in the studio and painting to catch up a bit. The photo for this piece was taken at the Torrey Pines State Park, looking south toward the coastline of La Jolla. The transition of seasons from Summer to Fall yields a mix of colored foliage and wind whipped treetops.

My thoughts are on the scenic views of Torrey Pines State Park today. While pondering the upcoming plein air painting competition at this historic site, I'm enjoying a quick browse through my giant photo inspiration box. Winter in San Diego offers wonderful opportunities to experiment with a few of the lesser used colors in my pastel collection, and the beautiful underblanket of dried pine needles, blooming weeds, and dried grasses at Torrey Pines presents a mosaic of ideas.
