"Patterson"

"Patterson"
Soft Pastel on Sandpaper
8" x 8"
It's just amazing to me how drawn I am to wirey and curly haired dogs. They are like little magnets! This cutie had me thinking back to some of my earliest pet memories. I grew up in pretty foo-foo surroundings as a kid, and my mom, in all her "pomp and circumstance" always had white poodles. My grandma on the other hand, was a "hands in the dirt" kind of gal. I would arrive to spend the day at grandmas house each Saturday, dressed in my white lace socks and black patent leather shoes (you get the picture), and sometimes I would bring along Suzie, one of our white poodles. Grandma had a Saturday afternoon habit of parking in her rocker and watching pro wrestling on tv. I grew quite accustom to participating in this tradition, and was especially drawn to the colorful masks they would wear in the ring. Grandma knew the details of all the greats - they had names like Freddie Blassie, The Destroyer, and Floyd Patterson.  It was Floyd Patterson that always drew my attention. He had this great, square tuft of hair sculpted high on his head. It was as if it was carved from styrofoam, straight up the sides, high in the front and dramatically sloping to the back. Floyd was so well known for this hairstyle that I'm pretty sure he started a fashion trend in the early 60's. In any case, he definately had an impact on grandma. So much that one afternoon after cheering for Floyd, we decided to break out the scissors and give Suzie a "Floyd Patterson" haircut. Mom was not amused!

"Patterson" is framed in wide black wood with thin gold liner, and UV/non-glare museum glass. Ready to hang and enjoy. $150 + $30 to ship anywhere in the continental US or Canada. Updated 4/28/12: Sold at ArtWalk!
