"Succulent Surprise"

"Succulent Surprise"
24" x 36" Oil on Canvas
© Monique Straub
Being a "studio painter" definitely has its benefits. I take photos of interesting scenes I come across almost daily, and store them in file boxes in my studio. Many times I find that favorites return to my easel several times, and they are painted in different formats with different color palettes. This painting is from a photo I took at the Water Conservation Garden near Cuyamaca College here in San Diego. The succulent garden was in full bloom, but it was so hot that day, I was melting! In the comfort of my air conditioned studio, I can crank up the tunes and paint away in comfort...no heat, no wind, no bugs for this girl :) I've painted this one before in pastel, this is the first oil.

"Succulent Surprise" is offered here, ready to hang and enjoy. Painted on 1-1/2" deep gallery wrapped canvas, sides painted black. Updated 4/30/17: Sold...at Mission Federal ArtWalk!
