"Good Old Boys"

"Good Old Boys"
24" x 24" Oil on Canvas
© Monique Straub

I'm mixin it up a little today...and sharing something quite a bit different than my usual landscape and botanical works. As you probably know if you've followed my work on Facebook or here on my blog, my husband is a "car guy." From time to time over the years, I've painted cars and trucks in pastel and oil. A trip to the "bone yard" is always an adventure, and the faces on these trucks had my imagination cooking up stories of past lives spent hauling construction materials and maybe visiting a drive-in or two. Old but not forgotten, these rusty vehicles are experiencing a renewed popularity at auto auctions, and believe it or not...collectors are adding these "patina" vehicles to their collections.

"Good Old Boys" is painted on 1-1/2" depth canvas with sides painted black, ready to hang and enjoy. You may purchase here and have it shipped to your door, or purchase here and pick up at my studio/gallery at Liberty Station, Pt. Loma, and I will refund the shipping. $625 + $40 to ship anywhere in the continental US or Canada. Updated 11/23/14: Sold!

"Prince of Primer"

"Prince of Primer"
12" x 12"
Soft Pastel on Sandpaper

I'm often asked if I only paint landscapes and flowers...and the answer is no. It seems that in the summer months the landscape is just so pretty that I can't resist. So over the next few weeks, I will hopefully carve out enough time to add a little variety to the mix. Over the years I've painted old rusty trucks, donkeys, mopeds, produce, cats, lighthouses, local landmarks, roses, day of the dead figures, California missions, and the list goes on. I always love a challenge, and enjoy commission requests.

Today's painting is based on a photo I took while driving to the studio one morning. I'm always on the lookout for interesting subject matter, and I really think this old truck winked at me as I drove past. A quick U-turn and the rest is spelled out right here. Framed in a wide, dark brown wood frame with gold liner and UV/non-glare museum glass. Ready to hang and enjoy. Buy it here and have it shipped, or email me to pick up at my Pt. Loma studio and I will refund the shipping fee. $295 + $30 to ship anywhere in the continental US or Canada.

Daily Painters "Nifty A"

A special request for something "Model A" coupled with a recent trip to the "Temecula Rod Run" got my creative juices flowing to all things automotive. Cars are always a fun challenge, and working to capture the personality of a particular model is something that I truly enjoy.

Painted in soft pastel on sandpaper, this painting measures 12" x 16" and is framed in wide, dark wood with UV/non-glare museum glass. Priced at $350 + $40 to ship anywhere in the continental U.S. or Canada, this piece is the perfect "man gift". Updated 3/22/11: Sold!

Daily Painters "Imperial Stand-off"

Today something a little different. My husband is a big car buff, and he is always encouraging me to paint cars. I've done a few in the past, so in an attempt to "get published" on his car guy blog, I ran across the perfect opportunity. One of my favorite oil painters, Carol Marine, has started a new painters challenge. Each week she will post a photo of the challenge subject, and artists can paint and submit their interpretations. This is the first challenge painting of the series, and if you're an artist, or just want to check it out, here is the link - http://www.dailypaintworks.com/challenges.

This piece is 8" x 10" and painted in soft pastel on sandpaper. It is offered framed in a dark/wide wood frame with UV/Non-glare museum glass, ready to hang and enjoy. Buy it now price $185.00 + $25 to ship anywhere in the continental U.S. or Canada. Thanks for looking.
