"Beneath the Oaks"

"Beneath the Oaks"
24" x 36" Oil on Canvas
© Monique Straub

Another of my larger format oil paintings, "Beneath the Oaks" was inspired by a walk through the San Diego back country. I've also painted this scene in pastel using a few different color themes, but I really think this is my favorite.

Painted on 1-1/2" thick gallery wrapped canvas, the sides of this piece are painted black and it is ready to hang, unframed. You may purchase here and have it shipped to your door, or purchase here and pick up at my studio/gallery at Liberty Station, Pt. Loma, and I will refund the shipping. $1295 + $40 to ship anywhere in the continental US or Canada. Updated 2/25/15: Sold, and on its way to Oregon!

"A Little on the Shady Side"

"A Little on the Shady Side"
12" x 16" Soft Pastel on Sandpaper
© Monique Straub
The cooler days of November are definitely upon us here in San Diego. A recent morning walk revealed white, frost covered rooftops, and my chilly strolls have now become early evening adventures. Yes, to some it may seem trivial to notice just the slightest frost, but to this native San Diego girl, that is about all of a season change I've every noticed. Winding down my street, stepping from sunlight to shade, everything seems a little more brilliant and clear this time of year. I've begun to chop onions, nuts and celery in preparation for the upcoming feast, and today's painting reminds me that although I prefer summertime, winter also has its perks. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

"A Little on the Shady Side" is offered framed in a wide, dark brown, plein air style frame with UV/non-glare museum glass. Ready to hang and enjoy. Purchase here and have it shipped to your door, or purchase here and pick up at my Liberty Station studio and I will refund the shipping. $365 + $35 to ship anywhere in the continental US or Canada. Updated 5/11/13: Sold!

Daily Painters "Creekside Summer"

Hot thoughts are fillin' my head today,
the beak is half open on my bluejay.
It's 90 degrees here in the shade,
if I lived at the beach I'd have it made.
Good thing my studio has a/c,
that's a smile on the face of SDG&E.
Here's hopin' this painting makes you feel cool,
and my rappin' it mood don't make me look like a fool!

Daily Painters "Burst of Spring"

I'm revisiting a favorite scene today. I often take a morning walk when I'm at my studio in Balboa Park, and this is my choice for one of the most beautiful areas in the park. For you locals, it is located along President's Way near the gymnasium building. I think these are Podocarpus trees, and this time of year they are sprouting with brilliant green new growth.

Painted in soft pastel on sandpaper, this piece measures 11" x 17" and is framed in wide, dark wood with UV/non-glare museum glass. Ready to hang and enjoy. Buy it now price $375 + $40 to ship anywhere in the continental U.S. or Canada. Updated 4/30/11: Sold at ArtWalk!

Daily Painters "Summer Oaks"

It's a perfect day for another oak tree painting. With just the slightest hint of Spring in the air, I can't wait until it's time to hit the trails again. Sometimes I'll paint trails and trees for a while, and sometimes I get going on other things. This weekend I'll be attending a much anticipated yearly show of all things "vintage auto." I'm sure my hubby will come home with lots of new goodies to jump start those automotive still life paintings... we'll just have to see.

This piece is painted in soft pastel on sandpaper, and measures 12" x 16". It is framed in wide dark wood with UV/Non-glare museum glass, ready to hang and enjoy. Buy it now price: $350 + $40 to ship anywhere in the continental U.S. and Canada. Thanks for looking :) Updated 4/14/11: Sold...to a new collector in Reno, Nevada!

Daily Painters "Oak Tree Dreams"

Painting daily sometimes gets my ideas flowing so fast that it's hard to keep up. Usually, I arrive at the studio in the morning with no idea what the day will bring. I thumb through a big box of reference photos I've taken on my travels, and one thing or another will jump out to be painted. But on this day, before I could even get into the studio, this group of oak trees worked their way into my early morning dreams. Do you dream in color? My dreams are in crazy color...and usually that "wonky" pathway is in every dream. Hmmm, I wonder what that means...

Painted in soft pastel on sandpaper, this piece measures 12" x 16" and is framed in wide dark wood with UV/non-glare museum glass. Ready to hang and enjoy. Buy it now price: $350 + $40 to ship anywhere in the continental U.S. or Canada. Updated 3/1/11: Sold...to my top local collector!
