This fun little piece was inspired by a visit to the dentist office. A birthday present for one of the girls in the office, this perky little bouquet was begging to be painted. Of course there was much "artistic license" in play here, since I didn't want to paint file cabinets and paperwork. Fun things to paint can be found just about anywhere...you just have to keep your head in the clouds :)

The countdown is on...next weekend is Mission Federal ArtWalk in Little Italy here in San Diego. It is one of my biggest shows of the year, and this year I look forward to sharing an adjoining booth with my husband John, who will be showing his fine art photography for the very first time. I'll provide more on that in a later post.

My newest painting "One Lip Two Lip" was inspired by a quick photo of a friends birthday flowers. Of course, I always change up the colors and background, and this one was really a fun challenge. I've painted this before in soft pastel in a similar color palette.

I spotted fresh Tulips at Trader Joe's last week and it prompted me to dig through my floral photos for this cute little still life arrangement.  I painted this in pastel last spring, and with art show season fast on the horizon, I'm breaking out the oil paint and revisiting a few of my past favorites done in pastel. I'm often asked where I get my inspirational photos, and this one is a perfect example of "I'm glad I have an iPhone!" This vase of tulips was sitting on the desk of a neighboring goldsmith, and just begging to be painted. I'm heading out to the local "doggie parade" in the park for a little four legged inspiration a bit later today.

Yes, Valentines Day is right around the corner. I was reminded today when I saw the advertisement for The Marine Room Valentine Day special in the newspaper. For anyone planning a visit to San Diego, The Marine Room offers spectacular dining right on the sands of La Jolla. One of my favorite times to go there is when they hold their "High Tide" breakfast. That's when the waves crash against the big plate glass windows as you dine on their fabulous (and very foo-foo) breakfast buffet. Not for the faint of wallet, but maybe put it on your bucket list :)

Colorful and lively, flower arrangements always get my attention. This perky bunch of tulips is the pick of the day. Although it may be a bit difficult to see in this photo, I had fun with a bit of sparkly copper texture in the underpainting on this piece. That "salmony" pink results from the scenes still etched in my mind from a recent weekend at "Viva Las Vegas"!
