The streets of San Diego are alive with color! One of the official city "street trees" is the beautiful Jacaranda, and many of our streets are ablaze with purple. With the heavy rains we've experienced this year, it is a heavy flowering year. I'll be bringing my work to ArtWalk Little Italy at the end of April, and Cedar Street where my booth will be, is also alive with these beautiful trees. Stay tuned for details.

This fun little piece was inspired by a visit to the dentist office. A birthday present for one of the girls in the office, this perky little bouquet was begging to be painted. Of course there was much "artistic license" in play here, since I didn't want to paint file cabinets and paperwork. Fun things to paint can be found just about anywhere...you just have to keep your head in the clouds :)

Birds are chirping, blooms are bursting, and an early Spring is in the air! While browsing through my big box of vacation memories, this shot was just begging to be painted. A stroll down the streets of San Luis Obispo brought this welcome surprise of crispy apples on the tree. I was a good girl and kept my hands to myself...but it wasn't easy :)

Birds of Paradise are gracing the canvas today, and they are found in the landscape just about everywhere you look here in San Diego. I'm occasionally reminded by visitors to our city that tropical things like this are an oddity in some hometowns. Well...they grow like weeds here, and I've had many a personal experience with trying to extract them from the yard, and I can tell you, as beautiful as they are...they are not easily removed!

Do you have varied interests in art? Are you a collector of many different styles? As an artist, I find that I'm frequently drawn to the bold and unusual when it comes to my personal collection. The art that I surround myself with calls to me when I'm browsing art shows and galleries. For me, it's one of those "I'll know it when I see it" types of purchase. One of the fun things about watching and listening to people as they browse my booth at an art show, or enter my studio/gallery, is hearing their impressions and opinions, and the joy of watching each of my works strike a chord with another person, and join a new collection.  With variety being the spice of life...this painting revisits a neighborhood theme I've enjoyed in the past. Not fully abstract, and not fully representative of anything in particular, they are just a fun walk through the canvas, on another sunny day :)

Yes...it's time for more sunflowers, but this time instead of soft pastel, they're painted in oil on canvas. As the breezy days of spring give way to summer, the inspiration for this piece was just a bit shy, turning her face with the wind as I snapped away with my cell camera.

Yup...more poppies, but this time instead of soft pastel, they're painted in oil on canvas. It has been a fun transition from the "dusty fingered" work of pastel, to the "I have paint on everything" world of painting in oil. And just when I thought I was getting away from having to frame my work, I found these too cool gold crackle float frames (say that ten times fast), and I have my new favorite combo! I'll be debuting six of these new pieces at the Mission Federal ArtWalk in Little Italy, April 27 & 28, from 10am-6pm. I'll be located at the corner of India and Cedar Streets, next to Indigo Grill.
